Challenge
The challenge was to transform a written news article into an engaging motion graphic utilizing only text and icons. I selected an article from Business Insider discussing warnings about the potential consequences of a nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack from North Korea.
Solution
I started by analyzing the article to identify keywords that would guide the visual narrative. From this research, I developed sketches, style frames, and a storyboard in Adobe Illustrator to structure the animation. I also created a focused color palette and selected audio that reflected the serious tone of the topic. By pairing clear visual metaphors with structured pacing, the animation transformed complex information into a digestible visual sequence suitable for digital audiences.
Results
The final animation successfully communicated the article’s central message through motion design, demonstrating how visual storytelling can make complex geopolitical topics easier to understand. The project strengthened my ability to synthesize research, distill large amounts of information into key points, and present them through clear visual hierarchy, timing, and animation.
